Otis (Harrison Gray) is born in Boston.

October 8, 1765

The son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Otis) Gray, Harrison Gray Otis graduates from Harvard College, becomes a lawyer, then a successful businessman, marries Sally Foster in 1790, and moves to 141 Cambridge Street in 1796.* Otis serves as a delegate to the Hartford Convention, in the Massachusetts legislature (1794-96, 1802-17) as both speaker of the house and senate president, in the U.S. House of Representatives (1797-1801) and Senate (1817-22), and as mayor of Boston (1829-32). Otis dies at his home at 45 Beacon Street on October 28, 1848, and is buried in Mount Auburn Cemetery.
